Welcome visitors from all the
Tarrytown Facebook Groups! As
that Group's first Moderator, I had
originally posted this material on the
Group, "Tarrytown & Sleepy Hollow,
We've Lived & Loved There"; but after
the administrator there blocked me,
I recollected all such photos here.
(A good soul who still has access to
the archives of the aforementioned
Group has informed me that most
of my posts--still being sequestered
there--have been replaced by a no-
tice, stating that the continued use
of my material there may, in fact,
constitute a copyright violation.)
As for the wonderful Life photos,
they now fill the unofficial tribute
page that you are on: "Tarrytown
as Seen by Eliot Elisofon." Current
members of the aforementioned
Group, as well as any and all others,
are most welcome to now view
this unique material here. Thanks
to Facebook members Dani and
Emil for graciously linking to it!

Originally, I had wondered why
the young lady had the sailor to

then, he was to her left in the
next one.

Being photographed in the

there are two very dif-

for the outfit, which is,

Now we can see that the first

different sailors (as well as
two ladies) were, in fact,
present that day.

A note on the captions:
The photos that are
adequately-captioned
come from a subset
that was further
processed in 1944. I am guessing that
these were the superior shots that Mr.
Elisofon planned to use in some future
publication. This photo (from WIHS) &
the many others that didn't make it to
a second round are captioned simply:
"Tarrytown."
